Profile of target audience

Natalie James is aged 17. She is highly intellectual and studies media, music tech, textiles and performance studies in college. She has been doing acting and dancing from the age of 5 at a local theatre school. She hopes to become a lawyer or a well known dancer in the future. In Natalie’s spare time she likes to go out raving and partying with her closest friends and attends most concerts of her favourite artists, such as Rihanna, Wiz Khalifa, Chipmunk, Trey Songz, Panic at the disco and Ellie Goulding . Natalie likes to know about celebrity gossip and latest celebrity styles as she duplicates the latest trends that the stars are keeping up with. Her friends are highly influenced on her fashion style. She has an eclectic sense of style where she mixes rock styles with latest R&B styles such as Dr Martens, Jordans, Levi shorts and Raybans. Natalie works part time at Harrods as it pays well so that she can afford some of the brands and clothes the stars where. Natalie loves listening to music She has a few tattoos one on her arm which is a combined pattern of music notes. Natalie is attracted to boys with lots of tattoos as she believes it shows they are creative by telling there story on there skin.

I intend to develop my music magazine to target this specific reader by including most topics that natalie is interested in, like some young females and males they are a huge fan of tattoos. This will mean that i will have a feature page dedicated to celebrities newest tattoos. As natalie is very keen on Celebrities styles I  will have pages on the latest fashion trends of different types of celebrities mainly r&b singers, rappers but also include rock and indie trends also.

Denotation
The magazine front cover consists of a colour photograph looking at the camera with his face at an angle. It is a medium close shot, showing his head and top of his body. He is standing with his hand raised up , holding something. The background is white and the photograph fills up the whole magazine cover. The masthead is situated behind the males head. In front of him is 4 coverlines, which includes his name which is in gold.

Masthead
Rolling stone masthead is very distinctive. It is a serif font in red with a white outline and black shadow. All though the males head covers some of the masthead, we can still see that after each lower case letter they join up. The name "Rolling stone" could come from the famou group called "Rolling stone". This could suggest that the magazine is mainy rock and roll as that was their genre. This shows us that the magazine is mainly music based, however have a few exceptions.

Character
The cover photograph is of the well known rapper "Snoop Dogg" dressed very christmasy.

Composition
He is posed very calmly. His body language is relaxed, as well as his clothing.

Costume
Snoop doggs costume is a plain red sweat jumper with braces around it, on the braces is a christmas type pattern. He also has a christmas hat on but instead of a white fluff ball on the end it has been edited to put a diamond incrusted ball. This shows Snoop Doggs wealth. This outfit has been carefully chosen to link in with the christmas edition theme for the magazine. He also has a candy cane which is blowing out smoke, this captures snoop doggs personality and also the candy cane sticks with the festive mood.
His non verbal communication is also very relaxed as he is just looking at the camera with a normal look on his face.
The lighting is highkey and bright as it is representing christms which is a happy season, bright colours always connote happiness.
There is no setting just a plain white background, however this could represent snow, this is now still keeping in with the christmas theme.

Target audience
The target audience is likely to be in the mid 20s upwards as "rolling stone" is a famous magazine which will have loyal customers who buy every issue. It could be in the mid 20's as this edition has snoop dogg on the front this could intice readers who dont usully read this magazine to pick it up.
Covelines
With these coverlines we can see what type of music the issue is going to be about. The big coverline is about snoop dogg. It says "smokin christmas" this links into the theme and the photograph of the candycane with smoke. The other coverline is about my chemical romance this is written in a smaller font. There is another coverline at the top which is by an author  which says"How the super rich are screwing america". This shows us that the magazine is music based but also has other articles in it.

Analysis of Vibe

Denotation
The magazine front cover consists of a black and white photograph of a man with his body to a slight angle and face looking to the side of the camera. Almost as if he is looking away from the camera not directly to it. It is a medium shot showing his head shoulders, waist and a quarter of his legs. Directly behind the males head is vibe’s masthead which is in bright red, on the right hand side of him is 5 cover lines in black and another block of writing with celebrities names featuring. On the left hand side of him is another block of writing in white. The background of the photograph is half black and half white. The background is the exact same layout and colour as the background of the filmposter "scarface". In the left hand corner there is a barcode.

Masthead
Vibe’s masthead is very bold as it is in bright red. It uses a non serif font, there is a space after each letter making the masthead stand out. The V I and B are all capital letters to stand out where as the e is a lowercase letter. On top of the masthead is 3 words also in red, this is showing what the issue is based on as this is special edition.

Character
The cover photograph is of the well known artist ’50 cent’ dressed and posed like the faous "scarface"

 Composition
He is posed in a very stern position with his body at an angle. His arms hanging down beside him. His body lnguage and face suggests that he could be of high importance or with a "gangsta" look on his face.

 Costume
His clothing his a white suit both trousers and blazer with a black shirt underneath. The blazer is button up with shirt unbuttoned slightly, he is wearing a chain with a cross on it around his neck. His serious facial expressio completes the look giving us the impression that we are meant to be intimidated and he means business. This costume has been chosen carefully to match the same costume that "toni montana" is wearing on the front cover of the famous film scarface. His costume fits in with the theme of the poster introuducing who 50 cent suppose to be.
His nvc also matches with the idea of scarface showing he is a gangster.
The lighting is lowkey, but bright around his face so the audience can capture his stern , serious look.
There is no setting at all as it is just a colour background with no props. However the plain background fits in with the theme, leaving it mysterious.

Cover-lines:
The main cover line that relates to the photograph says "Starring 50cent as Scarface". This is linked to the theme of the magazine for this issue. The different coverlines tell us that this magazine isn't just about music as one of the cover lines says "Plus the other 49 movies that changed hip hop". This also shows us that they chose 50 cent purposly, as they were going though 50 movies that changed this specific genre of music. With these coverlines we can see what type of music the issue is going to be about. The big coverlines are about artists such as John legend, Tweet and status quo. There is a little paragraph of writing that says co starring lil wane,Meagon good,The game, idris ebra and wood harris. This is done well as it is set out like the film poster 'Scarface' by putting co-starring this shows us who else is featured in the magazine.

Target Audience
Looking back at the evaluation for each section, the target audience is probally males and female aged 16 and above. Also Target audience is likely to be people who like hip hop and r&b gene music. I would say that it would be aimed at african americans.
